About the producer
Banfi is one of Montalcino's largest estates, known for consistent quality across their range and a commitment to traditional winemaking in their hilltop cellars.
About the year
2016 was a warm, dry vintage in Tuscany that produced ripe, concentrated wines with good balance. Brunello from this year drinks well now but will continue to develop for another decade.
Grape characteristics
Brunello is a clone of Sangiovese selected for the Montalcino region. It produces wines with deep colour, firm tannins and the ability to age gracefully for twenty years or more.
About the region
Montalcino sits on the southern edge of Tuscany at altitude, where cool nights preserve acidity in the grapes. The region's limestone-rich soil and continental climate create wines of structure and elegance.
Tasting profile
Expect dark cherry and plum with notes of leather, tobacco and dried herbs. The wine has weight and presence, with a long finish that evolves as it breathes.
Serving suggestions
Serve at 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Decant for thirty minutes before drinking to open up the aromas. Use a large red wine glass to let the wine breathe.
