About the producer
Marchesi di Gresy is a historic estate in Barbaresco with vineyards in the region's best sites. The family has made wine here for generations, balancing tradition with careful winemaking.
About the year
2017 was a warm, dry year in Piedmont that produced ripe, accessible Barbarescos. This wine is drinking well now but will continue to evolve for another decade or more.
Grape characteristics
Nebbiolo is one of Italy's most demanding grapes to grow and one of its finest. It gives wines with high acidity and tannin that feel delicate rather than heavy, with perfume that reminds you of roses and dried fruit.
About the region
Barbaresco sits in the hills south of Alba, where morning fog and afternoon sun create ideal conditions for Nebbiolo. The sandy, clay-rich soil and cool nights preserve the grape's natural acidity and aromatic intensity.
Tasting profile
Expect aromas of red cherry, rose petals, licorice and dried herbs, with flavours of sour cherry, plum and a hint of tar. The wine feels elegant and refined, with a long, dry finish.
Serving suggestions
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius in a large red wine glass. Decant for 30 minutes before serving to open up the aromas.
Also pairs well with
